What to ‘Expect’ from Your Belly Session
You should plan to have at least a 90 minute session to allow for clothing changes, different setups and bathroom breaks! Timing is everything! Before you want to nest and hibernate but also when your belly is big and gorgeous; generally at the 8 month mark. The more creative you want to get, the more unique your final shots will be, the more fun they will be to show everyone. I’m up for it so think big!
The Golden Time & Ideal Locations
The ideal newborn session happens in the first 9 days. I’ll say it again. THE FIRST 9 DAYS. Once they start eating and waking up from a fetal state you can’t hold them back and their big little heads will lift and flop, they’ll need to eat and will love to practice screaming and or crying much more. YOu want floppy, sleepy, somewhat unable to fight you when you want to pose them with a vintage soda crate or on top of a giant teddy bear! Best plan is to tell me your due date and I’ll do a little math and reserve the weekend closest to that 9 days-old birthday. It is imperative that you aim for a 90 minute session with newborns. Between the variety of set-ups you want and stopping to care for a newborn, a lot of downtime is required to make sure we have a mellow infant and comfortable, stress free set of new parents. If I can make it work within 60 minutes , great, but book for 90 or the full custom length to make sure we all have a positive and productive shoot. Having a baby is hard work and sometimes that means the best place for your newborn shoot is your house. Keep in mind not everyone’s house is bright enough for a photo-session. I’ve worked in tiny spaces next to patio doors, pushed away kitchen tables to get the full blast of a skylight, but sometimes a house is too dark and small for me to bring my gear and get quality photos. Depending on where you live, there may be a $25 travel fee as well. I tend not to drive more than 30 mins one way these days; it zaps creative energy and gobbles up the entire day. I like to focus on you and not stress about travel. The solution is shooting at my home in Tinton Falls. My place is in the vortex where Lincroft, Colts Neck, Shrewsbury, Red Bank and Tinton Falls all converge-pretty central to the parkway and Route 18. Coming to me allows me maximum control over lighting, more props and photo staging at arms-length and enough room for your helpers to hang-out (spouse, grandma, auntie, etc.) In nice weather, I have a garden that makes for nice shots.
Props for Pics
I’m always looking for great fun props to use. “Props” is not a dirty word. A prop can be an old shoe shine kit, a fabulous fringey footstool, or Daddy’s work shirt. If you buy a prop for our session and I LOVE it, I’ll buy it for 70% of what you paid and deduct that amount from your digital gallery buy. Contact Me to Book Your Session
